Photo Friday (birthday girl edition)

Friday, July 26, 2013

I am so excited to share these photos with you, I know I have expressed how hard it can be to photograph your own children (at least for me). I tend to go into my sessions with the girls aphrenrsive, knowing I'll end up frustrated. Not my finest moments by any means.

But this session was different, it was almost easy (almost). I just love the outcome, I feel like I really captured their personalities and their beauty. I'll be quiet and let the pictures do the talking. :)

Can't believe how big my babies are, and how quickly they got to this point.

Hope that you enjoyed these as much as I do (probably not possible), and that everyone has a great weekend. I'm looking forward to celebrating with dear friends the soon to be arrival of a new little one,  (not mine) and a few birthdays as well.

Today happens to be one of my most favorite person's in the whole world birthday today so happy birthday to our aunt trishy who we love so so so much. I have a feeling that this birthday will be better than all the other birthdays before. Love you friend!

Birthday Party Roundup

Tuesday, July 23, 2013

Warning: this post contains an overload of photos, it might overwhelm you a little. Please scroll slowly and advert your eyes from the screen every few minutes to avoid damage

We decided this year to throw a joint party for the girls. This way our families only had to make the drive one time this summer, and save time and energy with only one party.

I had a hard time coming up with a theme for it, there are so many ideas out there. It would be so easy to pick a theme that I loved and just run with it, but I had to remind myself that it is their party and not mine.

That being said we went with a cowgirl theme.

My girls think that they are real cowgirls since we live in the "country" now. Which I will admit that compared to where we used to live this is definitely county.

They love their cowboy boots and hats, and still get incredibly excited when they see horses or cows (or "moos" as Jo calls them). So I felt like I really had no choice in the matter.

I didn't do a whole lot of decorating, I knew that most of the party would be spent outside. I made the sign out of an old fence I found on the side of the road. (love finding treasures that way!) I spray painted it pink and then white. If I could do it over again I wouldn't go with the spray paint, it took more coats and the final look didn't come out like I had hoped. I made the banner with burlap and my printer, using this tutorial. It was so much easier that I thought and so much quicker!

For the cake table I used old sheets my nanny (norma jean) had gave me some time ago. Again one women's trash is another's treasure. You can't really see them well but I had the girls 2 and 4 year old photos displayed throughout. (come back for photo friday to see all of them!)

Now let me just tell you about these cakes, they were ahhh-mazing. Terrie is a friend of my mom's and did both cakes and the cupcakes. They were perfect, exactly what I wanted but did such a poor job of expressing.
her face kills me in this photo, I can't decide if she is thinking about eating it or just keeping an eye on to make sure it doesn't move.

Charlee loved her cake, it couldn't of been more perfect!

I told Terrie just some stuff that the girls liked, because I didn't really have any ideas of what to do for the cakes. I told her the animals each girl liked and their favorite colors. It was important to me that they each had their own individual cake, a cake that when they saw it knew it was theirs.

I remember when I was in the 7th grade two of my friends had a joint birthday party, but most everyone thought it was only one of the girls party and not both of theirs. I'm sure you know how well that went over with 13 year old girls.

Anyways I didn't want that to happen to either of my girls, I wanted the party to be a joint but equally both of theirs (am I making any sense?). Terrie was is awesome and if you are looking for an awesome cake please check her out on facebook.

Also you should know that as amazing as these cakes looked, they tasted even better. I mean it, unreal goodness.

this is a look of sheer determination, or fear

One of my favorite traditions growing up was getting books from my mimi and papa, I still have some that my girls now read. So I loved seeing how excited my girls were when they got books from them for their birthday. These might be some of my favorite photos from the weekend.

I've wanted to do a photobooth for as long as they have been popular, but I've never had the space to do one. Now I know that this is not a new idea and a little played out, but I didn't care. I'm so glad we did it because it was so much fun and now I've got an awesome keepsake of all the people who helped us celebrate.

The weather couldn't of been better for us to hang out outside and enjoy each other's company.

top left is Jo eating one of the legs off of her cow

Everything went so great, I almost want to say perfect but I don't want to jinx myself.

Thank you to everyone who made it out, thank you for being a part of our girl's big day.

I want to leave you with my favorite pic maybe ever.

The preacher and I have been trying to come up the best caption to fit this picture. He said it looks like a perfect face to make into a meme. So lets have a little contest whoever comes up with the best caption (leave it in the comments) will win a choice between a discount off of a photo session or something free from my shop.

I'm pretty sure this look has something to do with her cake.

Thanks for putting up with the mass amount of photos today.  Hopefully your eyes weren't damaged too bad.

Be sure to come back on Friday to see the photo session with my girls. I'm so happy with how they turned out, and excited for you to see them too!

take me out to the ball game... photo friday!

Friday, July 19, 2013

My BFF is coming up on her first anniversary with her hubby and I got the honor of taking their photos to celebrate. Nicole is the head softball coach at Hillsdale College (Go Saints!) and has also been playing softball longer than we've been friends (which is a very very long time). So what better place to have our session than the ball field?

Now, as the best friend I'm pretty protective of my dear friend, especially when it comes to boys. (she will testify to that) But I couldn't of picked a better man than Jeff, he is perfect for her. I liked Jeff from the beginning, but when they showed up to the ballpark in Oklahoma State shirts my fondness of him grew quite a bit.

You see, Nicole and I have always had a bit of a "friendly" rivalry, I've grown up loving the state's university, and she might like that other school who's name I will not mention. So seeing her in orange and black made this heart happy.

It can be a little awkward taking pictures, doing all the things the photographer tells you that sound a little ridiculous. But these guys were awesome, Jeff did all the silly things that men dislike to do, and I'm so happy he did because I love the outcome of these photos.

This one is my absolute favorite, Nicole you are so beautiful!

Happy 1st anniversary guys, I know it is only the first of many many more to come! Love you!!

Make sure and come back next week to see how my first joint party went and see how my girls are getting way too big.

Have a great weekend!

Have No Fear...

Wednesday, July 17, 2013

Little Miss Callaway turned 3 in May, and we had so much fun at her photo session.

I have been taking this beautiful girl's pictures since she was a newborn. I love to look through the pictures to see how she has grown, and also see how I have grown as a photographer.

She had a superhero party so after we took the "nice" photos we found a phone booth so we could take photos of her real identity:

Super Callaway is the strongest, fastest, and smartest super hero around, you definitely do not want to mess around with her. You can sleep better at night knowing she is keeping the streets safe.

It might be a hard job, but Super Callaway is up for the challenge!

Behind every super hero is a super mom, ready to help save the day.

Had so much fun on this session, it's not everyday you get to see a real super hero in action. Come back friday to see Cal's parents anniversary baseball themed session!

Better Late Than Never

Tuesday, July 16, 2013

Don't worry, we're still alive and well here in Wilburton, USA. So, it's been a while since I've had a post, Easter was the last post. Yikes! As many of you know sometimes life gets busy, and when that happens we have to choose what takes the backseat. In my case that was the blog, but the good news is that I'm back!

A lot has happened since March, and I plan to get you caught up on all of it.

Oh where to begin....

Would it be okay if I just picked up where I left off? If so that would be My Easter mini sessions.

This was my first time to do mini sessions, and it was so much fun. It also wore me smooth out. I did not account for photographing so many toddlers in so little time. I really believe that myfitnesspal should have an exercise input of "photographing toddlers." I definitely burned some calories that day.

So this was the first time I've had a set up of this kind. I'm not going to lie, I was pretty nervous.

Have you ever had a project where you had a picture of what you wanted in your mind but couldn't figure out how to make that happen? Well my friends this is a common frustration of mine, I just can't seem to get things to look how I want. So that is why I was nervous about my set up, also they were in OKC so I had to bag up all my stuff and hopefully didn't leave anything behind or get there and hate what I had.

Luckily, none of these things happened. I got there and set up and fell in love, and I couldn't be happier with the outcome of these sessions.

this one might be my favorite from the whole weekend
I love photographing people. I love capturing a moment that you will love for forever. And I love it even more when I get to photograph people I love, which was the case with most of my sessions this weekend.

I have known all of these lovelies since they were babies, how much fun it is to watch them grow.

CG is a girl after my own heart and loves Minnie Mouse, once she had this book in her hands she was all about it.

My favorite of the cousins (my cousins)
Now, it is hard to take a bad photo of these kids. They are just so photogenic, and they all have such funny personalities. I always laugh during our sessions.

This was my first time to meet this good looking guy. I loved those beautiful eyes! (and it might of been hard not to squeeze those cheeks a few times)

He loved those eggs! He was 6 months when we took these, which is such a fun age.

I couldn't be happier with how all these came out, I'm thinking I might need to do a fall mini session too. What do you think?
